About Us
Who we are
Real Range is an independent Australian project building a better way to understand what vehicles actually cost to operate. Not a manufacturer, not a network, not tied to any brand. Built from the ground up to be useful to everyone, whatever they run.
What we are
One app covering every vehicle type: electric, petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, LPG, or electric scooter. One planner that handles any trip in any vehicle. One logging system that turns the use you already get out of a vehicle into real data about that real vehicle.
What we do
We give people accurate, personalised answers to the questions they actually ask. How far will this vehicle really go? How efficient am I as a driver or rider? How efficient is that new car I am thinking about? What will this trip really cost? Which route is cheapest? Which charger or service station is actually working right now? How does my vehicle compare to others like it? How does one I am thinking of buying stack up against the one I have today?
We do this by calibrating every vehicle in the dataset against real logs from real use. The more it is used, the more accurate the numbers get. Aggregated across thousands of vehicles, the same data answers bigger questions about reliability, efficiency, and infrastructure that no other source can.
And if we know what your car normally does, we can work out how you compare 😉 And we can apply your driving style to how other cars would suit you and what YOUR trip plan would be. It's no longer hypothetical.
What we focus on
Three things, because everything we do depends on them.
Logs. Every trip, every fill, every charge session recorded against a specific vehicle, used by a specific person, on specific roads under specific conditions. Logs become calibration. Calibration becomes real range. Logs aggregated across users become model-level truth.
Planned demand. When people plan trips, we know where they expect to be, in what vehicle, at what state of charge, at what time. Aggregated, this turns charger and service station demand into something forecastable rather than reactive.
Check-in and check-out as a byproduct. When a user logs a charge or fill, they are implicitly checking in and checking out. Arrival time, session duration, energy or fuel delivered, departure: all captured without extra effort. Aggregated across users, a site's real occupancy, real throughput, and real wait times emerge continuously from the same action that gives the user their own cost record.
From these three mechanisms, a long list of real-world complaints becomes directly addressable: broken chargers that show online but do not work, failed handshakes, the gap between rated and delivered charging power, peak-period queues, coverage gaps, bay blocking, range figures that do not match real use, and payment friction. Every log contributes to every feature. Every trip plan feeds forecasts for every other user. Every session improves reliability scoring.
That is what we are building. One coherent app for every person, every vehicle, every trip.
